Northern Vietnam

Hanoi and Halong Bay
May 30 - June 2, 2014

We discovered early on that buses, and especially overnight buses, are just not made for anyone over 5 1/2 feet tall.  So, for our trip to Hanoi we tried out the overnight sleeper train.  What a treat!  We stayed in a 4 bed cabin, and were lucky enough to have the whole thing to ourselves.  It was so much more comfortable than a bus, and allowed us to see the beautiful scenery.  We did not spend much time in Hanoi itself, but rather traveled to Halong Bay for a 2 day cruise through the beautiful waters.

There are so many boats in this bay, it is crazy!

During our cruise, we took some excursions including a cave exploration a kayak adventure and a trip to a beach.  To be honest though, our favorite part was just hanging out on the boat; the views never got old!

We hiked to a viewpoint at the beach.  It was a little hot; can you see us glistening?
And oh, those beautiful sunsets...
